Artist`s Statement:
//custom & critical works
My first oil painting was created at the age of 12. Very early I have been fascinated by oil paintings that looked so real, yet being individual interpretations of the artists. Albeit art professionals of the 60th to 80th of the 20th century asserted that realism in art has lost its right to exist since the invention of photography, a new stream of the Renaissance of realism started in the 90th in the USA and found lovers soon after around the globe. And there is more than one reason for its right to exist in the art world: a truly by the hands of the artist drawn and only through his eyes, his mind and senses created oil painting might look very realistic, yet it is born from an individual artist and always his interpretation of what he paints, it mirrors his personality with all his/her history, his thoughts, his sensitivity and character traits, his experience with his/her environment and the world he lives in. Only by this individual interpretation of what he/she wants to say to the recipient, also paintings e.g. of the “Neue Sachlichkeit” from Dresden, Realism and Impressionism, of the romantic art or the impressing artworks of the English Symbolism are touching us emotionally, trigger or initiate something in us, much more than any photography can do.
Although painting water sceneries has become a the leitmotif of my artistic career in the past decades, up to now I am accepting custom work orders of clients for various themes from time to time. Whether it is a portrait, landscape or a beloved animal, I still love it to remain open-minded and like to accept new challenges. Somehow I feel connected to the tradition of the old masters. If you consider that most of the famous artworks we see in museums, castles, cathedrals a.o. have been custom works this way to work as an artist has been the most important part of their working life.
